Our History
In 2007, in a peaceful corner of Gascony, a short distance from the Ménard family estate, the Domaine Haut-Marin was established, a new and bold expression of viticulture in the region. This project is the work of Elisabeth Prataviera, who comes from a lineage of passionate winegrowers determined to leave their mark on the world of wine.
Elisabeth grew up at Domaine de Ménard, immersed in the stories of her Swiss grandfather, who had planted the first vines in 1920, and by her mother and grandmother, who, although working mainly behind the scenes, played a crucial role in the estate’s development. Inspired by these strong female figures, Elisabeth wanted to prove that a woman could not only manage a wine estate but also lead it towards new horizons of success and innovation.
Armed with this family heritage and her own vision, Elisabeth set out to find a place where she could realize her dream. She then discovered in Gondrin, an exceptional site located just ten minutes from Ménard. This terroir, characterized by its clay-limestone hillsides rich in marine fossils, bears witness to a past when the sea covered the Gers region. This geological richness gives the soil unique qualities, ideal for viticulture.
Driven by her desire for renewal and her wish to affirm the importance of women’s role in viticulture, Elisabeth founded Haut-Marin. This estate, more than an agricultural project, is a declaration of independence and ambition. Elisabeth adopted innovative and environmentally friendly practices there, ensuring that each bottle produced is not only a reflection of Gondrin’s unique terroir but also a celebration of fused innovation and tradition.
Domaine Haut-Marin quickly became renowned for its wines and Armagnacs, which captivate enthusiasts and critics, embodying the fusion of a deep respect for viticultural history and a resolutely modern approach to winemaking. Haut-Marin is thus not only a tribute to the generations of women who shaped Elisabeth, but also a symbol of her own path in the region’s viticultural history.
